About us
Busia Half Marathon boasts of being the first Marathon to have ever held in the entire history of Western Region having taken place in Busia County in 2011. The event was organised by the Western Development Initiative Association-WEDIA. The Theme of this year is ‘RUN FOR CANCER ‘ whose objective is to help the cancer patients alongside tapping and naturing young talents in Busia County.
WEDIA is a non-political, registered Association that has a strong track record of advocating for positive change in Busia County. Founded in 2011, they’ve tackled various issues: organizing the first Western Region Marathon, exposing potential land misuse, petitioning Parliament regarding the sugar industry crisis, and even being recognized by a top global technocrat, Kenya’s Ambassador to Belgium Prof. Bitange Ndemo, who used WEDIA as a case study in his 2018 Business Daily article. This recognition highlights WEDIA’s impactful work (link: https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/bd/opinion-analysis/columnists/sour-facts-that-blight-local-sugar-industry-2195724…)
